APC senatorial candidate for Ogun East,
Mr. Dapo Abiodun
The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial
candidate for Ogun East, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, has initiated a reconciliatory
parley with all aspirants in the district to pave the way for smooth take-off
of the party’s campaign ahead of the 2015 general election.
Speaking at the meeting that took place in his
country home, Iperu, in Ikenne Local Government Area on Monday evening,
Abiodun explained that it was important to meet with all the aspirants who lost
in the party primaries and all the aggrieved members with a view to reconciling
them before the campaign would start properly.
He declared that the parley was not organised to
usurp the party leadership’s role, but rather to fashion out some measures that
would make the party approach the coming election as a united family. Abiodun,
who emerged winner of the party’s senatorial primaries in Ogun East with a
landslide 2500 votes to defeat his opponent’s 400 votes, personally assured all
aspirants who lost at the primaries of financial compensation to cushion the
effects of their financial input in executing their aspirations.
His words, “Let me thank all of you for honouring
the invitation to be here at short notice and more importantly for your support
during the primaries. I have called for this gathering to assure all our
aspirants that this will not be a case of winner takes all. We will take care
of everyone who contested and lost at our personal level and we will get the
party to also compensate them.
“Having said this, as faithful party members, we
need to go back to our local councils, wards and polling units to sell the
manifesto of our party to the grassroots so that the people can see us as one
united family prepared to sweep the polls from the House of Assembly, House of
Representatives, Senate, governorship and presidential elections.”
He also assured them that when he emerges as the
winner in the general election, he would make sure the party takes care of
them.
Various party chieftains who attended the meeting
addressed the attendees who were mainly party chairmen, council chairmen,
consultants to the governor on local government matters and some of the party
aspirants.
He promised that all aspirants would be included
in the campaign committees for them to be able to carry all their supporters
along to join the campaign train.
Abiodun noted that since he has become the party’s candidate, he will ensure that all members are carried along in his campaign.
