The pioneer president of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Ghana Chapter Chief Emmanuel Ndubuisi and his executives has called for total unity and harmonic co-existence of all Igbo's in Ghana regardless of their cultural affiliations in the country.
" Igbo's in Ghana need to unify their social agenda and become one in spirit and purpose regardless of who they pay allegiance to culturally ,Ohanaeze the apex socio cultural organisation of all Igbo's worldwide is not just about creating cultural leaders for Igbos outside Nigeria but most importantly was founded in 1976 to foster unity among all Igbo's and to serve as a clearing house in matters affecting the interest and general welfare of Ndigbo in Nigeria and the rest of the world.
Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo is not a political organisation, though part of the objectives for its creation is to ensure Igbo's deserved representation within the political scenario of Nigeria. " The President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Ghana clarified.
"We are preparing for our 1st general Igbo Town Hall meeting in Ghana this August, and are calling all bonafide Igbo Sons and Daughters in Ghana to come and join Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Ghana Chapter in other to play their own part and contribute their quota towards ensuring the collective protection of Igbo's interest in Ghana , Nigeria and the world at large '' He said in a short chat with Mr. Iwuoha Editor in Chief of Nigerian Eye Newspaper at the Nigerian House kokomlemle .Chief Emma Ndubuisi also expressed his Joy and relief over the release of Dr.Ifeanyi Ubah who was detained by the DSS over a business transaction with Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)for almost 6 weeks and prompted the Ghana Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo to issue a press statement to the office of the presidency condemning the continuous detention of Dr.Ifeanyi Ubah.
The Capital Oil Boss who was arrested on May 5th was eventually released unconditionally by the Department of State Services on June 19th after a “No Case” was established, following a tedious investigation by the DSS in his rift with the NNPC .
Chief Emma Ndubuisi also promised to disclose more information about the coming Igbo Town Hall meeting in August as more details are confirmed to him by the Organising Committee which Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Ghana instituted to oversee the event.
One of the cultural requisite of any Igbo Man or Woman is to participate in his local town hall meetings which are mostly held in the month of August and geared towards community development, and since Igbo's are homogeneous in their core cultural practices there is need for them to come together as one, discuss their challenges here and unify themselves in order to contribute positively towards socio-economic development of Nigeria and their host Nation Ghana.
The founding of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo.
After the Nigerian civil war, some prominent Igbo's gathered to proclaim the need to unify Igbos under a common umbrella body. This initiative was much welcomed considering maximum displacement of the Igbo's during the war and its aftermath. An organizational assembly was created, referred to as the Igbo National Assembly (INA). This organization was later banned by the Federal Military Government at the time, probably due to the Government's fear of a grand suspicious agenda being cultivated by the Igbo's via the organization; hence, the creation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in 1976.
Professor Ben Nwabueze, a foremost constitutional lawyer, assembled prominent Igbo leaders to form the organization of which he emerged the Secretary-General of the organization spanning a period of 20 years.
The organization was effectively championed and supported by K.O. Mbadiwe, Dr. Michael Okpara, Dr. Pius Okigbo, and Chief Jerome Udorji (who served as the first Secretary General), among other notable Igbo personalities.
